While anytime is a good time to start planning your deck, when to contact a contractor to build it is another thing! I submit bids for decks all year long, and generally, in the late winter/very early spring, the deck business “takes off.”
People tired of the long winter are anxious to get their deck built in order to enjoy the coming warm weather. Often, by the time mid-spring rolls around, I am fully booked into the fall and can not even take on any more work.
Whether you’re contacting Dan’s Decks or any other contractor, please consider that the Fall – particularly near the holidays, is the slowest time of the year for bid requests.
Less demand means quicker attention to your bid and often better pricing (Think of it as the cost of a hotel at the beach in the off-season; better pricing and more availability!).
This is particularly important for those full sun exposure decks.
While the equation for calculating the cost of a deck is very complex, one factor that goes into consideration is the worksite environment (full sun is miserable in July but wonderful in December!).
In summary, for the best pricing and availability, don’t “wait until next spring” to call.
